obama. in reality obama beat them by about 6 points. actually 2 p.5. in new hampshire romney's polls had him ahead by five or three rather. these are like nine-point differences. it also showed the internal numbers were off in wisconsin, and it shows even more clearly why their confidence peeked right before the vote. over the last wecht the romney numbers showed romney gained strong momentum. in wisconsin he lost 4 points as romney gained 4 tied up the race. in new hampshire obama lost four while he gained three. he was talking to romney's sun tagg. as the results were coming in, quote, he looked like he was in a complete state of shock as if these numbers cannot be real. to make matters worse, florida and virginia, two states romney lost, he was told were in the bag. john braybender is an adviser to rick santorum. i want to start with you, john. you're on the inside. you know something about this. do you understand how somebody would think that the electorate that's going to participate in 2012 in a general election with barack obama, an african-american, a democrat, and a re

said he would rather go over the fiscal cliff than not to raise tax rates. so obama pushing higher taxes on the top 2%, not for economic reasons but for i'd logical reasons but there is also this obvious fact. obama wants to raise the top rates for political reasons. now that is he wants to force republicans to raise tacks in order to trigger a civil war within the gop and the conservative movement, and in that respect sadly obama is having some success. now so long as this debate is focused not on cutting spending but on raising daxs and revenues with the only question being which taxes, how much revenue, then obama wins. now if obama succeeds in making the argument not about his spending, but about grover norquist, he wins there, too. for republicans, on the other hand, if they can figure out a way to refocus the debate on spending, they win and the country wins. we can't kid ourselves that's correct is not easy to do. obama has the biggest microphone in the land and he also has the media in his hip pocket. all the gop has is control of the house. now it's very hard, it's inheren

offer is proof? >> in 2011, president obama, who felt and president obama and felt were on their heels, they were facing after with compromised proposal. deep in the obama boehner negotiations, they were talking about a proposal with 800 billion in revenue that would come through a somewhat tax reformed process. right now we're seeing the exact opposite. president obama is sticking firm with what he offered in his budget release, or at least in his opening bid and boehner is kind of chasing over obama with more or less compromised proposals saying, why won't you work with me, give more, sacrifice more? look, we're early here and most of the people i talk with in washington are saying we're not going to get deep into this until mid-december at least. if we do a process of kind of incrementally coming from in between the two proposals, you could very easily imagine between obama and boehner on tacks is $1.2 trillion. that's where they end up on mandatory spending, 750. that wouldn't be a shocker either. boehner's opening bid here is not the bid of the side in the stronger position. it's
